hello,

coach irvin, pat is incorrect about coach torres being a "know it all", much less cocky.

if we take the scientific approach, then we base our entire position on empirical evidence (empirical = that which can be proven, repeatedly).

the only evidence we (the public) have ever been presented with is to the exact contrary.

coach irvin, as you have stated, asking questions and training dilligently are NOT evidence of cockiness or "know it all-ness". having teammates that are loyal to him, and him to them, for years, is also NOT evidence of cockiness or "know it all-ness".

while celebrations (even rowdy ones) at the time of winning could be considered evidence of cockiness, it is NOT proof.

psychologists call this phenomena "argument of ignorance".

a comparative model that could be used to illustrate this phenomena is the "UFO" argument.

a person looks up in the sky and sees something they don't recognize.

by not recognizing it, they PROVE they DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS.

in spite of this PROOF, they then take the position that, because they don't know what it is they saw, that it MUST be aliens from outer space.

the colliery (other side of that same coin) of this is that people will make such assumptions and demand that others accept such assumptions "with an open mind".

with all that said coach irvin, this individual "pat", is demanding we "believe in aliens from outer space".

pat doesn't know jt torres, therefore jt torres MUST be cocky. since no other satisfactory explanation of jt torres has been give to pat, pat demands we also believe that jt torres is cocky.

the weakness of this position is further compounded by the fact that pat was unable to stay on task. the task, as you have put forth coach irvin, was to observe the video (evidence) and draw conclusions (is it real, is it useful). nowhere in your links or videos is there a solicitation to evaluate the personality of coach torres.

do not be upset by this coach irvin. individuals such as pat should be pitied. such posts betray an inability to delineate between task and fancy, real and imagined, as well as an inability to comprehend basic things about the surrounding environment.

pat is also unable to develop an intelligent argument based on critical thinking. pat further stipulates that while jt torres is cocky, mike fowler is "awesome and humble".

pat? where is the evidence of the "awesome humbleness" of mike fowler in this video? you are assuming everyone who views this video knows mike fowler. what if they don't? if that is the case, what value does your statement have?

outside of the obvious emotive issues inherent in your statements, you give us nothing to work with. you don't even give us a starting point.

perhaps you are correct on both counts? how are we to prove your thesis? on what evidence?

granted, not everyone is required to be overjoyed with this video, but the video IS the topic at hand.

in the future, pat, please stick to the topic at hand. it is difficult to read through poorly constructed statements such as yours.

apologies for the rant coach irvin. this individual is confusing at best.

thanks

How is JT cocky and a know it all? I will say that JT is super confident and have an incredible will to be the best he can be. But a cocky bastard he is not and he's far from a know it all. JT is the type of black belt that sits in class and practices everything, always ask questions, always studies jiu jitsu and will learn from anyone and everyone. Trust me, I've seen guys who thought that they were know it alls. They don't pay attention to techniques when their being shown, they always want to show their variation of techniques, never drill the new moves etc. Funny thing is most of these types have never accomplished anything at the high level.

Please share with everyone how you came up with the thought that JT's cocky and a know it all. If it's because he celebrates after he wins, then I guess that's just your opinion, I mean, the kid gets excited about winning. He's on a mission to become a Black Belt World Champion, you should see the celebrations that some of the Brazilians do after they win, and it has nothing to do with them being cocky, just super happy. If that's not it, please let me know.

You're the first person that has ever said that about JT so I would like to know why you thought that.

Thanks
