That was awesome, and very strategic grappling, well done!

  • cherice reed says:

Fantastic! Please, please, please accept me and teach me Mr. Irvin…

  • ChesterMcdow says:

Wow, he makes that triangle look so easy….

  • Shaun says:

that was awesome…I play my game off my back like the other guy, but JT was doing an awesome job of trying to pass and took the back right into the triangle…sick!

  • vikki says:

Awesome! I can view this video over and over to see so many techniques applied throughout the entire match, so sic! His making it look “easy” makes me feel, it’s possible. Thanks! totally made the start of my day!

  • james ostergren says:

    very slick and fast

  • curtiss says:

very nice work. very patient game plan, didn’t rush and executed subbmission nicely…

  • omar says:

thats very good stuff..thanks a lot

  • Flomaster says:

    That was the shit man.

  • David says:

Nice transition at the end. He didn’t even seem to see the triangle coming until it was too late. Beautiful!!!

  • Paul says:

I like the way JT seemed to be picking his way like going through the branches of a tree. Then, BOOM! he sees an opening and explodes. This proves the drills work, and the mat time has ripened the triggers. Great job.

  • doug MacD. says:

Thank for the the match…it was awesome…I have purchased the Grappling Game Plan from you in the past and IT DOES WORK…it makes you think and mecome more of a methodical game player when Grappling.

    Thanks Again

    Doug

  • Phil says:

As a recent purple belt, that has taken 10 years to get to, I am always blown away when I see skilled grapplers so young and it makes me realize how little I know and how the game has evolved. As a professional boxer, kickboxer ,and MMA fighter for 20+ years I got tired of the fight game but jiujitsu is fun and great to watch especially when you see top caliber people making it appear so effortless.
    Thanks

  • Viktor says:

You can see the drilling effecte the moves and transitions look so natural and fluid it feells like JT was born with Jiu-jitsu

  • curt says:

was good match would be a good way to learn and a good start on tech for m.m.a also not bad for an edge on any streat fight

  • Rick says:

Great stuff…keep up the great work!

  • Steve Johnson says:

i need someone to help finish what i have started.

  • paul e says:

Hey nice match. I like your initial double leg. Does the dvd set go over double takedowns and set ups? It has been a sticking point for me and any input helps.

  • Stan says:

JT is so poised and relaxed while rolling its almost like watching the BJJ terminator! Congrats on the Black Belt I’m looking forward to watching you continue your climb to the top!

  • Lukas says:

I liked it, like all the videos. The initial double leg and the reaction of the oponent was alos interesting.

  • Mike says:

I love how JT kept the pressure on … didn’t give his opponent time to recover once in his guard. His transition into the Triangle was classic!!!!

  • carlos gonzalez says:

FANTASTIC FIGHT,HE FLOWED EASILY FROM MOVE TO MOVE HE IS TO BE COMMENDED FOR MAKING IT LOK SO EASY. WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO FLOW AS SKILLFUL AS JT. IM 42 WITH A BAD BACK BUT I STILL LOVE DOING JIU-JITSU. WOULD LOVE TO OWN SOME OF HIS TRAINING DVD’S.

  • Tarn says:

    Sick Transition! Congrats

  • Jay says:

That was awesome. very well done…fluid!

  • Paul says:

Simply amazing transition with a strong finish. Top level technique from beginning to end. It’s very obvious that JT spends alot of time both technique and flow drilling. Keep up the good work! Congrats on the BB JT!

  • aaron webb says:

nice jt you flow like water

  • thats why i Love this sport.. you make it look like poetry…

  • Garrett says:

Awesome tech, its amazing to see what the next level in the evolution of BJJ looks like.

  • Chris says:

    Amazing. So smooth in transition.

  • Mason says:

wow, that was a beautiful and quick transition from the back to the triangle. nice work and congrats on your black belt.

  • Great to watch. I like the guard play and passing attempts just before the back to the triangle transition. You can see how much fun it is to roll, just from watching…great.

  • Rudy Sims says:

nice jt your are the man. can’t wait until the dvd come out

  • Cam says:

Wow, simply wow. That’s serious sensitivity in action. Great job JT!

  • Tom says:

Best trainer ever. Makes me wish I was still back in Maryland!

  • Norm says:

Let’ see it in slow motion, JT is so quick…!

  • Conrad C says:

    SICK! Nuff said!!!

  • Ed says:

great to hear mike and jt’s thoughts on the drilling. can’t wait to get the dvds!

  • aaron webb says:

    thank you very helpful

  • vikvik says:

I like “heart” the concept of doing one technique from every position. In fact that is how I have organized my video clips. Its funny I first started out like that, b.c. at first you are only taught a few moves. So you try ‘em from eveywhere..then you get bogged down with all the other things you can do.. I’m excited about the clips & video, as an organized resource that you can review and have structure to follow. Thanks again for wanting to make everyone a better BJJ competitor.

Sometimes what you guys state and put into writing feels so “common sense” that it almost makes it unbelievable…I’m grateful I’ve felt this way about many things in my life and therefore I am open and receptive to what you guys have to share

  • Ray says:

Awesome breakdown and explanation of the importance of drilling with a purpose.

  • Tony says:

the importance in drilling is one of the most efective ways of stepping up your game quickly. thanx for letting the rest of the world know also. cant wait to get the dvds

  • Danny says:

Awesome interview! The interview alone is priceless!

  • Rouven says:

Thanks. Great information but I think you shouldn’t give it away for free like that. Those infos can make a big difference, what your students allready proved. So you should keep it only for the guys who really buy your products. It’s such kind of stuff who makes the difference to guys who get to the top and the others who don’t, so you shouldn’t make it accessible for everyone. And btw you can also drill by visualisation. Works even without trainingpartner :-) (cause you don’t have always the guys you need or who have the right level)

  • Larry Keith says:

Good interview. I too am a firm believer in technique drills. Repetition is the only way to develop muscle memory.

  • Josh says:

I couldn’t agree more with what JT and Mike are saying. The only way to take down or pass, or submit a great grappler is with a perfect set up and perfect execution. Once you’ve got that, it doesn’t even matter if that’s the only move you know, because if you can do that one technique on the best guys in the world, then you can BEAT the best guys in the world. Knowing a hundred other set ups and moves won’t help – it’s not like you can use them all at once.

  • Bruce says:

great interview, it shows team lloyd irvin is commited to giving the best information to commited grapplers. it’s good to see people who have learned and created so much valuable grappling information, sharing it with their base.

  • Adam Adshead says:

Awesome clip and concepts, makes me excited to see the whole DVD.

  • Jim Chandler says:

Nice, I emailed Lloyd about flow drills and he took it and ran. This is exactly what a BJJ or any martial arts person needs to understand that there is a difference between flow drills vs technique drills. No one else is on the level that Lloyd Irvin and his guys are on in Bjj right now, my opinion. They are pioneering and implementing new concepts or should I say an American concept to martial arts, ie…Brazilian Jiujitsu. How do you think Lloyd changed the game of Bjj so fast from over 60 years of Bjj being done successfully down in Brazil. Guess we have to start calling BJJ something else, like Lloyd Irvin JJ.

  • Will says:

    Lets go Drill!

  • Chris says:

muscle memory is the key you grapple without thinking almost

  • sergei says:

I guess there is a bit of exaggeration to say you can live with one technique only just grill it to perfection. Yet one should start with indeed with one or two core techniques, I believe so.

  • Jacob says:

Great video. Thanks for sharing, Team LI.

I just started drilling and I really believe it will improve my game.

Honestly, I love anything jiu-jitsu related, but more than anything, I enjoy hearing the thoughts of high level jits players like LI, Mike, and JT. You guys all have such advanced jiu-jitsu minds and I will always make time to listen to you guys.

    Thanks again.

  • Jmoney says:

Personally, probably one of the best videos I’ve seen for Bjj. Now if I can just convince my teammates.

  • Jeff says:

    very imformative

  • Great points! Glad to see someone stressing them. BJJ is more about technique than getting buffed out in gym or being able to do 1000 f’n push ups! Thanks.

  • lorenzodamarith says:

    hello,

coach irvin, very glad someone finally said all this. have been searching for years for an academy where ANY students are willing to drill.

your team obviously has a good program, hopefully other teams will adopt this attitude about drilling. it would make all of us better at grappling.

you’ve given us a lot to think about.

    thanks

  • Carl says:

Thank you for this. This was how I was in school, like JT had mentioned. I knew the material for whatever class inside and out. Unfortunately, I didn’t apply this to jiu jitsu, and don’t have anyone around to drill like this. Great info.

  • chris Reichert says:

Thanks for giving updates on the importance of drilling

  • Mannyt says:

I couldnt agree more, i really need to do more drilling. Thanks for the advice.

  • Excellent interview coach irvin! As a self taught submission grappler i never really had a solid basic foundation in my BJJ, all i did was try and learn as many holds as possible wether they came from BJJ, Sambo, Judo or catch wreslting.

This approach worked well for a while but then my game just filled up with a lot of holes, mostly because i was concentrating on the stuff i liked.

About 5-6 months ago i had an offer to start teaching submission grappling at a local Karate Dojo (i live in guatemala)i dove right in at the chance but i had to lay down a system to teach effectively and responsibly that´s when i really became aware of the importance of drilling.

Now i´m blessed with very proactive students so if i tell them to drill for 20-30 minutes they just do it no questions asked, in addition i drill with them and stress the importance of these exercises in order to create neural pathways so that the body makes them second nature.

The great thing is they´re becoming very capable when rolling. For me, well, i´ve filled most of the holes i had in my game yet i´m still learning and there´s much work to be done

  • Thanks and God bless.

  • Joe says:

    Great review.

  • Carlos says:

There’s a reason Lloyd produces champoins. His knowledge and willingness of not only himself and his team to share that knowledge is great. They could keep this info to themselves and away from potential competition, but they don’t.They truly want to help bring BJJ to another level.Drilling is key but some people just don’t want to take the time, but how else are techniques going to become like second nature.Keep up the good work and thank you.

  • jim–> says:

    Big believer in drilling
Comments about work out partners.. so true .. so hard to find a good one

  • Chris says:

glad you posted this. I have found that when I drill things I can hit them a lot more than if I just try to practice them during rolling. Look forward to this being released!

  • Drew says:

I am firm beliver in drilling,as a kid my boxing coach would have me drill one punch at a time to the point were it was a natural movement where I didn’t even have to think when to punch or where to punch, the muscle memory was just there with no real effort. Thanks for these video’s for where I train bjj they really don’t push on drilling just a couple of times on movements then they move on to try to do and defend the movement without really breaking it down to see how it works. again thanks for these videos now just have to find a good drilling partner!

  • cherice reed says:

Clear cut and understandable…write down the technique thoroughly, see who wants to drill, and drill. Who’s willin’
    to drill…

  • cherice reed says:

Clear cut…write down the technique as thoroughly as possible, adding when necessary, then getting partner(s) to drill. Thanku so much. I’m ready to drill.

  • Greg says:

It is very obvious why you produce champions at your school. This is so important. Thank you for sharing these advanced concepts

  • Jerome says:

    Coach Irvin,

Thanks for the clip…great interview with Fowler and JT. Excellent information was passed on to us from BJJ Champions. I`m a true believer with drilling. Having a good training partner is also a big plus. Can`t wait till the DVD comes out…we will definitely get our monies worth. How can we get some of those t-shirts you are wearing on this clip?

    Thanks Coach!

  • Steve W says:

THE secret to fast effective learning and advancement.

  • lebeaux says:

Wow! This is A-class information you guys are sharing with us thats in my opinion absolutely priceless! No one I’ve heard of is sharing this kind of valuable information with the world! It really delves into the kind of training techniques thats required to become a world class BJJ athlete! If this is a preview of whats to come in your DVD release then I have to get it! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

  • troy says:

    thanks.

  • RobertCharles says:

Very interesting and different from any of your other videos that I’ve seen so far. The use of the discussion format and the analogy illustrations worked very well together. You take it a step further then, by explaining the details as well as the logic behind this training process. The message and importance of drilling is made very clear here by your team. Thank you for the great advice and guidance.

  • Hanif says:

    As usual, pure class!

  • Pascal says:

Thank you guys for your expertise and willingness to share it with such clarity. I have beem a big fan of all your videos from the beginning and I can’t wait to see the next one. You’re not only masters of Ju-Jitsu , but also masters of pedagogy. keep the good work.

  • Samuel says:

    that drilling is was up

  • Stan says:

This interview was pure genius! It’s like sitting down with BJJ Black Belts and picking their brains to see what makes them awesome competitors! I’ve purchased just about everything you’ve put out Master Lloyd and as always I’m patiently anticipating the release of this series. Thanks for allowing the rest of the grappling community get a glimpse into your philosophies and practices.

  • Darin says:

Thank you for sharing this info!! I need to hunt down some good training partners to drill, drill, drill, drill, drill!!!!

  • Stan says:

    Master Lloyd,Mike, and JT,

Thanks for being so open to the public with your theories and practices. You’re making it easier for those of us following in your footsteps. God bless

  • Dave says:

Such and easy concept (drilling) yet most guy’s will do the move 1 or 2 times and are ready to move on. It’s very hard to find a partner that thinks drilling is a must versus just goin one on one until someone taps. There is alot of times I don’t have the move down yet and my partner is ready to start grapplin. By the next time I’m at practice the move is already forgotten and there is no muscle memory from the drilling. I am a firm believer in drills and have been able to learn quicker when this is a priority. Thanks for putting this on video. Alot of grappler’s wonder what Team Lloyd Irvin is doing to be so successful. What an easy concept “Just drill the move”. Thanks for the video having Mike and JT explain that drilling is not boring it’s a learning experience that must be done.

  • Keith says:

    Drilling is crucial…great points!

  • Andy says:

As always guys, thanks for showing us your methods. You are definitely right about the importance of drilling. Without the drilling, it will take you much longer to reach a higher level with your jiu-jitsu, and without the drilling you may not ever get to those higher levels.
    You guys are awesome!

  • James says:

Hey,your video is very good. I think I could do it after watching. I need to watch it over and over to be sure. I look forward to watching more here.

Thank you for your interest in teaching.

    James Townes

  • Norbert says:

I like this pass. I am going to use it tonight.

  • Allie says:

The oldest & one of the few females in the gym. Can’t wait to try this. I know I catch someone by surpise. I love it.

  • alkhaff says:

yea man… i love all of these videos… hope the training course come out soon… would love a free copy…lol

  • Chris says:

This pass is great because your opponent is helpless. I also like JT’s way of covering the hip to prevent them from replacing you in the guard and he will possibly give up his back.

  • Bruce says:

once again great detail on a good pass

  • aaron snow says:

another qulity vid from JT, congrats on the new promotion.

  • Fuad Abbasi says:

I’ve seen this same technique being taught by Marcel Ferreira of American Top Team Deerfield Beach. The best teacher of gi and no gi jujitsu hands down.

  • Zach says:

    Great Counter to the Sprawl

  • mataleao says:

old stuff, works very well for me.

  • wael says:

mmmmmmmmm, usually i don’t use douple leg takedown to prevent anaconda choke or guillotine but jt here give me good idea how to use the counter of opponent to your advantage . if u practice this technqiue and u can do it very fast before opponent recovery u will have dangours technique .

  • ace g says:

sooo nice jt. keep up the good work

  • Lebeaux says:

Wow! Even though i have seen this technique before, JT has shown me some valuable small details i have missed in the past. I know how the smallest detail can sometimes make the biggest difference between winning and losing a match. I will most definitely drill this move over and over again! Thanks again for not holding back valuable information that some of the best instructors do.

  • Danny says:

Verrrrry good move but your teaching technique is superb

  • Rob says:

Man, this is awesome. This is an older move but the details provided with the weight on the opponents back with your head and the contact with the arm makes the move so much more practical. I always had a trouble shooting that knee through but now I think with these slight adjustments, it makes the sit through so much more effective.

  • OMAR says:

SNEAKY COUNTER MOVE WE’LL BE TRYING IN CLASS TODAY THANK YOU JT AND CONGRATS ON YOUR PROMOTION!

    GOD SPEED !

  • Jared Seger says:

    really good technique.

  • This is a great move. It’s a true oldie. It’s good to see the basics receiving the focus they deserve.

  • George says:

    Great Technique!

  • robeezy says:

exactly how its done JT. great transitions

  • Great techniques JT. I´m a no-gi submission Grappler from Guatemala and since we dont´t have high level instructors like Master Lloyd and yourself down here, your techniques have been vital to de further development of my game. It has opened a whole new world of opportunities for me. Thanks for posting such relevant and innovative material keep up the great work and congratulations on earning your black belt.

  • Keith says:

Great video. Congrats on the BB!

  • Russ Hall says:

All you youngsters in High School Wrestling might want to drill this one extra long. It will pay off on two different mats. I had no
idea my college coach knew BJJ?!? I learned this in 1989 in wrestling and he promised me
I’d never see it again. Lloyd you guys are doing a good rock solid job on teaching interesting and effective moves. I’ve seen one
move to 2 years that didn’t work and that was probably my fault.

    JT congrats on black.

  • chris says:

this is definitely an oldie but a goody nice work guys

  • chris says:

congratulations on your black belt its just the begining!!!!

  • Josh says:

    Flawless technique I love em.

  • Matt says:

Amazing video. A great way to start cutting angles and attack from multiple directions.

  • john dingle says:

yeah i like it when i train with heavier guys i get stuck in this position quite a lot.Maybe this will be no more RROOOAAAARRRR.;)

  • Danny says:

    Nice technique!!!

  • Ed says:

    simple, yet effective!

  • Jim Chandler says:

Nice simple and no frills. Great

  • David says:

I’ve used this technique before watching it here, but I LOVE the simple explanation. It’s no wonder that you’re a champion already.

  • Steve Johnson says:

Im a BJJ purple belt and this is a great takedown.

  • Mike says:

Great Technique. I will be practicing this one. Thanks.

  • john dingle says:

I like this no looking for under hooks or swimming against him to much just normal clinch and a good technique ill be trying this one tonight keep up the good posts so i can have an extra instructor at home;)

  • Lukas says:

We used that takedown a lot, but mostly when you can pass by under the arm, on the side of the under-hook. It’s good to see it from a 50/50 clinch position. Thanks!
    I’ll use it tonight,

  • Sherer says:

Thanks for the step by step instruction. You break it down so it is easy to understand and implement. Please keep the tips and videos coming!

  • George says:

    Good simple technique.

  • Jerome says:

JT strikes again…excellent move and very simple to execute. If all fails pull into the guard and work on more points. JT does a good job in explaining the technique…like usual. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

  • Kevin says:

I REALLY REALLY love this particular choke!JT, that was a great breakdown and explaination. I like the “ice cream scoop” thing.. it helps to tie a trigger terminology to the technique to get it to stick in your mind.

  • Stephen Ray says:

Thanks! Great explanation, but I can’t see exactly how the left arm grasps the right arm. Can you show us again with more light? The video is pretty dark underneath where your arms are under his neck. – Thanks

  • Excellent break down. Very good and simple technique that works like a charm (with enough drilling!)

  • Chad Phillips says:

Great simple technique. Used it in training and guys are gettin pissed! Usually take the back or pull gaurd, but this is sooo much easier!

Thanks for the videos JT, much appreciated

  • Josh says:

Great tech, its seems this finish is catching fire with everyone, the first time I saw this was on Marcelo’s 4th series, very effective

  • Mike says:

good explanation, very clear use of the words “ice cream scoop”

  • RobertCharles says:

Looks like an effective move and I look forward to trying it out. Thank you as always

  • Enoch says:

Do you abondon the chin and slide to the neck?? The pressure applied is it from the thumb area? mickeythepitbull@yahoo.com–> for answers

  • Lebeaux says:

This morning in training i tried JT’s “arm bar to back take” technique after drilling it the whole of last night. And surprise surprise! i got it first time..and second and a third! I cant wait to try this one in class. These videos are amazing and JT’s instruction is flawless. Its like having a world class competitor that KNOWS HOW TO TEACH REALLY WELL, right in my living room.

  • Mark says:

Great video again! I actually pulled this off when I rolled this morning. I used to try and pull a “regular” guillotine or an anaconda during this transition with some amount of success. I was able to pull this one off almost every time once I started working it with a partner… Thanks!

  • Derick says:

    Nice submission.

  • Sam says:

    Great explanation & detail.
I liked how JT explained & showed the proper hand-positioning & transition on its own – without Mike Fowler – so we could see what was otherwise being blocked by Fowler’s chin/kneck.

  • Greg says:

Concise, simple, and effective. I like the clarity of his teaching. Thanks.

  • Cindy says:

Great video! Can’t wait to try this in class…Thanks

  • donald barrett says:

i like ice cream . very simple

  • Gavin says:

Looks simple and awesome, I’ll try it and let you know. Aloha

  • Tom Wong says:

Nice simple technique. Video instruction is well done and easy to follow- a key to whether the video is worth while or not.
    Thanks for sharing!

  • Matt says:

this is an interesting option, gonna put it into the gameplan right away..also congrats on your black belt JT

  • sergei says:

very easy to bring a permanent damage to your opponent.
A lot of potentials from many other positions, like butterfly guard.

  • Alex says:

I like this one. Simple but effective. Will try it in my next class

  • Anthony says:

I’m new to watching these videos and I’m very impressed. Multiple demonstrations, memorable terminology, and most important super effective. Very cool.

  • Remo says:

I’ll try it next time I roll, but it would have been nice to get a better view of the other side so we can see the positioning of his left forearm. Either that, or a demo could have been done with the same camera angle but switch to opposing grips.

I’m sure I’ll figure out the proper positioning through trial and error, but the angling could have been better. Thanks again, its always good to add something new to my game for more options to go to.

  • dan arnold says:

looks effictive, I’ll try it tomorrow in class!

  • Jimmy James says:

nicely broken down! this is a great technique that will catch alot of begginers, or people who have never been exposed to it, at least a few times. i really like the way he opens the neck, something that i haven’t really used…YET:) but, this tech is so easy to slap on, not always the easiest to finish, it gives you alot of options because you are attacking early and fast! when defended, they have to bring their hands up to fight your hands, making it an easy transition to spin to the back. I LOVE IT!

p.s. For Remo: with the alternate angle you would see the same thing going down on the opposite side…so, just lock the hands under the chin (after you cup and scoop), close both elbows as tight as possible, curl your arms & wrists back towards your stomach and apply the pressure to the back of the head with your chest to make the head drop & keep him trapped…and tippity tap!

  • Shewp says:

Nice. I’ve never seen it done this way. I learned the 10 finger guillotine at Minotauro’s in West Palm Beach. They stand up to finish it. Another awesome video.

  • Mike says:

Nicely demonstrated JT. This looks like a fast easy technique to apply. I am looking forward to trying it out in practice.

  • chuck says:

great stuff ,nice details, will definetly drill this one and put it in the arsenal keep em comin

  • jay says:

    nice tech

  • Gordon says:

Is this move legal in UFC?

    From the UFC website.

    Fouls
    11. Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea.

Awesome move, great street technique as well.

  • Charles says:

I’ve struggled with this move before, maybe because my hands are small. However, I’ll have to try it with more pull toward the chest as the hands rotate like he shows.

  • Travis says:

Another great position, and congrats on your black belt. It’s great to see what American BJJ guys can do when they are afforded the chance to train like their Brazilian counterparts! -Proud of you! USA!!!

  • Eric says:

so simple yet so effective. i will try this out because im not very strong in the sprawl. You’re the man JT.

  • Jim Chandler says:

Nice alternative to the conventional choke underneath in the sprawl. I have been in that position on top and didn’t have much success with Anacondas or regular guillotines. Got to get to class to try this one out today.

  • chris reymann says:

hey thanks i loved the back taking dvd series it was great, i am climbing on backs like a monkey now, i like this one as well i definitely had it wrong. keep em coming this stuff is great for the sport.

  • Mason says:

Very simple and very effective. I used this technique during our in-house tournament and it worked like a charm. Thanx JT!

  • vikvik says:

the step names are easy to remember. also if someone on the side calls out ice scoop… unless they have seen this video your opponent might be confused.

  • Nice simple technique. Will try it out tonight

  • Jonathan says:

Thank you Master Lloyd, JT, and Mike for the Awesome and free techniques. Def. gonna try this tonite. Really appreciate all the great material!!

  • Tony says:

thanx for the great moves weather easy or complicated.ive gotten two of the moves to work for me in practice and i will continue to follow these instructions carefully to futher grow in my grappling game. congrats to Team Lioyd Irving for your new three blackbelts.

  • Leonardo says:

Seams like a good move, I’m going to try it out today at training, and tomorrow I’ll post a new comment !

  • Derek says:

Great moves, i’ve gotten down the moves farely good. Work very well and i hope to perfect my ground game with these grappling moves.

  • Todd says:

This technique is simple to learn…will definitely add it to my grappling game!

  • Mike says:

Sweet back take, easy to learn but effective.

  • Demordio® says:

Great move, not only it worked well, but it worked out against a black belt, and also I saw it on a competition, aplied by Claudio Calasans Jr.

  • Harlan says:

Awesome, thanks for all those great techniques. I really appreciate it. My BJJ training has really improved a lot with these videos. thanks again

  • RobertCharles says:

JT makes it look like a very basic move. Thanks as always for your spreading of knowledge in the game.

  • Manolo Mercado says:

Everytime I think I know enough, I learn a new technique from you guys!!! Thanx a lot! You are great!

  • brian says:

it looks like they could roll to there knee’s but you’r still gona get there back.

  • Chris Reichert says:

Sick technique for real! the transition is really good. I’m trying this today in class no question!

  • George says:

We will give it a try

  • bones says:

Great transition. Very simple yet very effective.

  • Damon Ballard says:

Slick baby I love it!!!! Wow where do you guys come up with this stuff?

  • Tony says:

yet another unbelievable back attack transition. i will deffinetly try to make this work for me in my training and comp. your team is the best in my eyes and i hope to make a trip out there for a visit. thanx for another great move!

  • Chris Robinson says:

Great stuff. Keep it coming guys.

  • Keith says:

    Keep the information coming….good stuff.

  • lorenzodamarith says:

    hello,

coach torres, THAT is a very fine back taking attack. you are a very good instructor… easy to understand and easy to follow along with.

a few of us got together and worked on the transition from your match video, so tonight, it looks like we’ll be working on this one!

    eagerly awaiting the series…

    thanks

  • Lebeaux says:

Wow if this is a preview of what is to come, i cant wait to get my hands on this DVD set! I drilled this move all night and cant wait to try it in class tomorrow! JT gives such excellent instruction, anyone could work this into their game plan and have great success, as i have had watching your instructionals. And you seem to hold back nothing. Keep it up!

  • Chris says:

Wow, nice technique I’m going to try to drill this in open mat.

  • Norbert says:

I am definatley going to use this one and even add on to it.

  • wael says:

nice move JT , use simple sweep to get the back and it is easy to setup , good work

  • Dragan says:

    wow…

  • Derick says:

Nice back attack. A couple of questions about it though. What would keep the guy from turning into your guard? Is it the knee on the back?

Also you mention this can be mastered withing 14-45 days. How many repetitions should you drill per day?

  • rob says:

Super slick. Despite having been in that position several times, I have never even thought of a transition like that. Thanks for opening my eyes!

  • Nate says:

    great move thanks

  • donald barrett says:

very good teaching skills. good technique .

  • sergei says:

looks like you may end in side control position

  • Jason says:

These vid clips are always sick! I will practice this stuff tomorrow in open gym!

  • Dragan says:

i had to come back and see this again…suck a nice move.

  • Tony says:

Nice move, will have to give it a try. I normally just try and rip the arm free to finish the armbar but doesn’t always work…

  • Rob says:

Great transitions! Keeps the movement and flow from getting you trapped without taking your opponent back to guard, and puts you back in dominate body position!!!

  • Shewp says:

Sick! Now I wanna see how you can get a triangle choke from there.

  • jonny varron says:

wow…thats a great set up to the back!you guys make my head spin!

  • chris says:

hey thanks for all the great stuff net was down for awhile but now i can see all the great stuff you guys have been showing. definitly on my list of to drill and buy series.

  • Darin says:

UNBELIEVABLE!! So simple but seems very effective. Going to try it on Bubba a hundred times on each side, thanks for sharing!

  • evan says:

A great option if you cant free the arm or slip the foot for the triangle ,thanks

  • The Goat says:

This is really sneaky…ive hit it on everyone ive tried it on over the past couple weeks…great stuff

  • Chad says:

This is live action proof that it’s attention to the details that separate those that are proficient from those that are experts.

  • Whereisyoursister? says:

    Absolutely!.. 100% agreed!
i really like you guys…. great people great team!

  • Javier says:

I like this pass.Your video is very good.
Thank you for your interest in teaching

  • aaron webb says:

thank again i love the flow drilling video

  • Snakepants says:

Great coaching videos! Great for people like myself who have an instructor with limited english. Just called up my main training partner to drill!

  • Adam Adshead says:

Again, another great video and something ALL levels of athlete should adopt, even if it’s just 5-10 mins per session.

Looking forward to seeing more and getting my hands on the set!

    Adam Adshead

  • Paul says:

Good in depth discussion. I need to take drilling more seriously. Thanks for sharing Lloyd, Mike and JT.

    Paul

  • Mark Orman says:

I have been drilling thanks to Master Lloyd, but I have not been doing any flow drilling. I can see where this would be an excellent help to improve the level of your game. As usual, I am looking forward to the release of these DVDs.

  • Emmanuel says:

Awsome!! I can’t wait to use this in my martial arts class

  • Jmoney says:

I’m always trying to spread your team’s success story at the gym. Great video as usual. So when do I get my free copy?

  • jose says:

hey man thanks, i want 2 get beter in bjj i hope i get a free copy. how can i order dvds

  • lorenzodamarith says:

    hello,

coach irvin, your thoughts on drilling are wonderful! every academy SHOULD be doing this. can’t wait to get this set!!

    thanks

  • Jonathan says:

That is very useful information. I am just starting in BJJ, and I have found that unscripted rolling or flow drilling is very helpful even for a white belt learning very basic techniques. Thanks

  • Phil says:

I love that you show that drilling is important. So many new students just want to go 100% all the time. Drilling is where you truly “feel” the movements of jiu-jitsu.

  • Norbert says:

This is something that a lot of schools overlook. I am a firm believer in drilling. Hell, they don’t really drill at our school, but I have friends that I get together with to drill all of the time.

  • George Lee says:

I enjoyed your video on drilling. Without this drilling
your body does not learn transitions. I can’t wait to see
the video and get more ideas on how to drill.

  • dustin says:

    very valuable information, thanks

  • Bruce says:

once again great interview, it’s nice to see perspectives of a group of high level grapplers. i was wondering if flow drilling is comparable to uchi komi in judo. the resemblance i see is that you train certain moves and counter moves if your first attempt fails. i know uchi komi is throws only but isn’t it like drilling for takedowns?

  • Mike says:

I really like this video. It address’ the need to practice all of the techniques. It becomes obvious that a full toolbox of techniques to draw on, and how to move to them is critical. Thanks a lot. I am looking forward to owning this DVD set.

  • Kevin says:

Thanks Lloyd, good stuff. The discussion is very useful. It would be good also if you could post additional examples of the application of the flow drilling on the mat; that last few seconds of the video looked good but it would be cool to see a few minutes more, if possible.

Thanks and congrats on your continued success.

  • Chris says:

Mike Fowler is one of the best people I’ve ever heard at explaining anything.

  • Robert says:

I have been studying not only BJJ but also a little about how the human mind works. I have heard from many top level competitors in different sports that they drill moves for hours at a time so that when it comes time for competition you don’t have to think, the moves just comes. They don’t even have to think what to do. Drilling trains the subconscious mind so that you don’t have to think. Like Master Lloyd, Mike, and JT has been saying DRILL. I have heard it before but its always good to hear it again!

    Aloha,

    From Hawaii

  • Jerome says:

    Coach Irvin,

Thank you so much for reminding us on flow drilling techniques over and over. I tend to forget about this and should definitely drill techniques more often and longer. After listening to you champions explain and share your training regiment, I will make sure my training session contains flow drilling.
Good luck to Brandon “The Truth” Vera on his next fight!

  • Dragan says:

man, you guys are great. thank you!

  • Greg says:

practice makes perfect or at least better. thank you for sharing and making us all better. this is what its all about

  • Richard Cook says:

Coach Irvin…Thank You Very Much for sharing this valuable information. So many guys that I’ve known over the years just think you can be good at BJJ by just going to class. You have to DRILL, DRILL, DRILL in order to reach the next level no matter how established you are.

  • chris Reichert says:

Good stuff! thanks for adding the video at the end

  • Carl Fisher says:

Yet another great video, you guys always inspire me to train harder and smarter!

I particularly like this video, a lot of information there for all levels to take note of and to use in their daily training, keep up the good work guys!

  • Rob says:

Repitition=perfection. Thank you Team Irvin. My game has much improved with these videos in addition to my regular classes…

  • ChesterMcdow says:

Wow, thank you so much for this, cant wait to incorporate this and other tips into my training schedule. Your info is awesome beyond belief, cant thank you guys enough!!!!

  • who? says:

muscle memory folks.just like shadow boxing for an example-kinda.muscle memory!!!

  • OMAR says:

I love the concept of flow drilling, repetition is the mother of all knowledge!!

    Thank you Coach Irvin !

P.S. I hope to get a chance to win your awesome DVD set !

  • Ryan says:

Great video, good information, but I would like to see some more drills in action. Hey, can you show us some drills we can do at home on are own. Right now I live far from the gym and my gym only meets 2-3 times a week (which is not enough), I would like to see some stuff I could do on my own to really improve. I know there is no substitution for real rolling, but I need something else to keep me busy.

  • Jason says:

Great advice coach! thanks for all you do

  • Steve Black says:

We had an instructor who trained with us several months ago who was a big proponent on flow drilling. He’s have us flow and not lock on submissions so we go a chance to move to positions we normally wouldn’t get to very often. Then he’d have us hold a potential submission as we flowed for a second or two without cranking it hard, just so the partner could defend and move out of the danger. We would flow for at least twenty minutes. It was a great workout. It helped us learn to move and think much quicker. This “flow drilling” helped me improve faster than anything. I also would use the new techniques I had learned from Mike Fowler and Ryan into the flow drill so it became a natural reaction. Thanks for the the reminder. Our instructor has since left and is working in a different city. None of the other instructors have us drill the “flow” but I’m going to encourage this very effective learning technique. Thanks for the great instruction!
    Steve

  • Rouven says:

Thanks again for this info. Finally all of your products are just pieces of the puzzle and you got to put them together to get the big picture.
When you did put out the Grappling Game plan I used the information in it from the beginning and still do today. I also drilled allready “my techniques” but not to the point your guys doing it. But with the information in this video you teach how the get even more out of it, faster and better. I wished I had this information and examples in the same time as the grappling game plan. But later is better than never. Thanks. One more thing I can use in the future and who will help improve my game faster then the rest of the competition.

  • Darin says:

So true about drilling. Kinda like typing where you don’t think about it anymore your fingers just move. Thanks for this vid!!!

  • Micah says:

    Awesome clip Master LLoyd!
In a market saturated with instructionals you constantly manage to put out really awesome products!
Just like your coaching methods the results speak for themselves, ive had great tresults with all the stuff you put out that Ive bought from workouts, to game-plan, nutrition and technique.
Your students are lucky to have access to such a great coach, but we get the next best thing great instructional dvd’s.
Looking forward to this one, learnt so much already from the pre-views.

  • carlos gonzalez says:

WHY ARENT MORE PEOPLE FOLLING THIS PROGRAM?? YOU GUYS ARE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR,LATELY NO BODY WANTS TO BE INOVATIVE AND SHARE THEIR GAME PLAN WITH ANYONE!!! NOT YOU GUYS THANKS FOR BEING UNSELFISH WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE,NO WONDER YOU GUYS ARE CHAMPIONS!!!

  • Keith says:

    Very good stuff….drilling is crucial!

  • RobertCharles says:

Like the last video on drilling, I like the fact that you take the time to explain the reasons why something works, and then further support it by examples. You have a great program that is really expanding the overall knowledge of the sport of Jui Jitsu. Thank you for all that you do in that regard.

  • George says:

    Another great video!

  • Thom says:

Another great video from Team Irvin. I’m a believer in Master Lloyd’s system. I was lucky enough to purchase the Grappling Game Plan when I first started training Jiu-Jitsu. I earned my purple belt faster than anyone in my school’s history, exactly 3 years.(Royler Gracie/ David Adiv Team St. Louis)
